The Central Govt.’s recent decision to curb hair exports in West Bengal has affected the State’s cottage industry. This industry largely functions in household workshops and West Bengal contributes the most in hair exports and hence, has faced a severe setback due to the new rule. The move comes after hair industry called for an action to eradicate smuggling. The hair exporters will now need official permission from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade before going further with the trade. The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) minister Chandranath Sinha revealed that the small exporters had approached him in order to monitor the crisis.
