In the dynamic world of high fashion and beauty, few individuals possess the unique blend of artistry and technical prowess that Alexis Ferrer brings to his role as Global Creative Artist for Wella Professionals. In this exclusive interview with StyleSpeak, Ferrer reveals his diverse inspirations and shares how Wella Professionals empowers him to bring avant-garde concepts to life on global runways.
The Virtual Reshaping Fashion
Ferrer kicks off the conversation on current global trends by reflecting on the powerful influence of the virtual world on contemporary fashion.
“The virtual world is reshaping fashion in profound ways of creation, having a huge significant impact on fashion. Color Palettes are enriched with metallic tones, giving designs a more technological feel. For me, fashion is the balance between craftership and technology – a bridge that connects the real world with the virtual one. This season, we will see stunning color palettes combined with futuristic silhouettes, creating a fresh look tailored for fashion enthusiasts.”
A Wellspring of Curiosity
When asked about what inspires him, Ferrer reveals, “I’m inspired by everything I don’t yet know, anything that sparks my curiosity. My passion for biology, my fascination with fashion history, and my love for art exhibitions keep my mind constantly awake, always seeking new ways to create and experiment within the world of fashion. Some of my greatest pleasures are travelling for work, discovering new cultures, and above all, reading the biographies of fashion designers and figures connected to fashion, stories that continually nourish my creativity and vision.”
Harmonizing Vision with Brand Identity
Balancing a brand’s established identity with an avant-garde artistic vision can be a challenge, but Ferrer sees it as a symbiotic relationship with Wella Professionals.
“Wella is a brand that empowers you with the tools, knowledge and confidence to unlock your full creative potential, all of which are essential when working in the fast-paced world of fashion. Currently, I have the honor of leading the hair direction at Barcelona Fashion Week and I collaborate with several international designers, creating hairstyles for their catwalks and fashion campaigns in London, Paris and New York. Thanks to Wella’s support, I’m able to turn creative visions into reality, to bring innovative and beautiful ideas to life on some of the most inspiring stages in the world of fashion.”
The Creative Journey
Ferrer’s creative process is a meticulous blend of conceptualization, historical appreciation, and technological exploration.
“To begin a collection, it’s essential to start with a concept. That concept can be a word or an image that serves as a source of inspiration. Personally, I look for something that feels interesting, innovative, and connected to the present moment. I enjoy blending references from fashion history, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens. In this process, I explore how technology can offer new tools and outcomes, allowing me to see fashion from a different perspective. One of the most important aspects in creating a collection is designing the color palette. Choosing the right tones helps me build a strong and fresh visual proposal, and it’s key to achieving an innovative final result.”
A Decade with Wella Professionals
Ferrer’s relationship with Wella Professionals runs deep, extending beyond a mere brand partnership.
“Wella has been much more than just a brand to me. It has been my family and part of my DNA. It is truly an honor to work for a company that offers some of the best products in the hair industry. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with Wella across many countries, inspiring hairdressers around the world. One of the most meaningful moments in my journey with Wella Professionals was in 2013, when I participated in the International Trend Vision Awards. That year, I was chosen to represent the Echo Collection on stage, with the aim of inspiring the contestants for the following edition. Finally, in 2022 Wella appointed me as a Global Creative Artist following my participation in the exhibition on the history of hair at the Museé Des Arts Decoratifs in Paris.”
Nurturing Hairdressing Creativity
For fellow hairdressers aspiring to elevate their craft, Ferrer offers invaluable advice rooted in passion and engagement.
“If you are a hairdresser looking to elevate your creativity, my biggest advice is to stay deeply connected to the world of fashion. Dive into its history, stay curious about current trends, and let yourself be inspired by everything happening around you, because true creativity is born from awareness and passion. For me, visiting art and fashion exhibitions is incredibly inspiring. They spark new ideas, fuel my imagination, and remind me that hairdressing is not just craft, it’s an art form. Surround yourself with beauty, stay open to learning, and never stop exploring. That’s where the magic begins.”
