HBS Ladies Hairdressing, Ladies Haircut Winner Aniket Etambe from Placid Salon, Mumbai talks about his winning look and experience

Your inspiration behind creating this look?

I wanted to create something new, and fresh, something a little more natural and street style like. Curly hair is being accepted these days, and lots of girls and women are embracing their natural curly texture, so what better to combine a trending haircut with the current hair texture popularity. The curly hair sporting a mullet!!

Also I’ve been coming to see HBS since 2 years and so far I haven’t seen a participant doing a curly hair look. That’s what motivated me to do it. I love curls and have seen people doing chemical treatments (straightening, botox etc…) to ruining their beautiful curls that’s what makes me unhappy. With this look I want people with curly hair to flaunt their curls, accept it and be proud of it.

What challenges did you face?

This was my first time participating in a competition and the main challenge was finding a perfect curly hair model which took almost a month making the moodboard, selecting right images that would represent the look along with outfit. Worked on doll heads a couple of times, tried the shape on some friends and each time I realized that I could improvise it.

And after gaining knowledge from all the trail sessions or practice sessions, I created this look, the perfect length and shape. I thought that would work to showcase my craft and deliver the best result keeping in mind suitability and form.

What was the preparation for the look?

Preparation started with experimenting haircuts with curly hair. Selecting the colour which will define haircut and choosing the right outfit.

Your message for the new contestants?

Believe in yourself, think outside the box. Don’t take it as a challenge just go for it!!! Nothing happens overnight, a winning look needs nights and days of visualization and planning, research and of course practice.
