Hindustan Unilever has announced plans to commit up to INR 2,000 crore over the next two years to expand its manufacturing footprint, with a clear focus on higher-value segments within the beauty, personal care and liquid home care categories.

The proposed capital outlay reflects the company’s approach of concentrating resources on select growth engines rather than spreading investments thinly. Priority areas include premium skincare and haircare products, along with liquid formats across personal and household care, where consumer demand has been accelerating. The expansion is expected to span multiple sites and is intended to improve production scale while allowing the company to adapt more quickly to evolving buying patterns.

HUL’s Beauty & Wellbeing business, which includes brands such as Clinic Plus, TRESemmé, Lakmé and Vaseline, is expected to play a central role in this expansion. The company has indicated that the additional capacity will be supported by higher levels of automation and digital integration to improve operational flexibility and supply-chain responsiveness.

The upgraded manufacturing network is also being positioned to better serve emerging retail formats and faster-growing premium product lines. This capability has become increasingly important as consumption shifts toward higher-end offerings.

Alongside growth objectives, the company has aligned the investment with its environmental goals. The new and expanded facilities are planned to operate entirely on renewable energy, linking the capacity build-out with longer-term sustainability commitments.
