Slated to reach US$9.8 trillion by 2029, it is driven by the surging demand for preventive health, mental wellbeing and wellness-focused living.
The global wellness economy has reached an all-time high of US$6.8 trillion, according to the latest data released by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), marking a powerful rebound and a major new milestone for the industry. The sector is now forecast to grow to US$9.8 trillion by 2029, expanding at a robust 7.6 per cent annual growth rate over the next five years.

Contributing Factors
The wellness economy grew 7.9 per cent between 2023 and 2024 alone, underlining strong and sustained post-pandemic demand. The industry now represents over 6 per cent of global GDP, and is projected to account for more than 7 per cent by 2029, highlighting its increasing importance to the world economy.
Among the 11 wellness sectors tracked by GWI, Personal Care & Beauty remains the largest segment, valued at US$1.35 trillion, followed closely by Healthy Eating, Nutrition & Weight Management at US$1.15 trillion, and Physical Activity at US$1.14 trillion. Wellness Tourism has also staged a strong recovery, reaching US$894 billion in 2024.

Wellness Trends 2026: More Focus on Workplace Wellness
The fastest-growing segments are notably those linked to lifestyle change and mental health. Wellness Real Estate, valued at US$548 billion, recorded the strongest growth at nearly 20 per cent, while Mental Wellness, now a US$268 billion market, expanded by over 12 per cent. In contrast, Workplace Wellness showed minimal growth, reflecting shifting work patterns and reduced employer-led programmes.
The wellness economy now outpaces many traditional industries. At US$6.8 trillion, it is larger than the global sports industry, IT, tourism and even the pharmaceutical sector. Experts attribute this sustained boom to ageing populations, the global rise in chronic disease, heightened focus on mental health, and a broad consumer shift towards prevention, longevity and holistic wellbeing.
