The Ambience

Respa features a serene, nature-inspired design. The décor has been carefully chosen to create a peaceful, engrossing setting. The interiors here are done up in earthy tones that create a calming, grounded atmosphere. The soft ambient lighting, the Dhanvantri statue and the cosy and peaceful. The organic texture of natural materials like stone and wood ties the interiors to the natural world. Subtle aromatherapy notes of rose, jasmine, and frankincense gently scent the air, adding to the ambience.

The Essentials

All the treatments use in-house Ayurvedic formulations, including herbal oils, Ņyūlposh oil, Pavitra scrub, Neem–Tulsi blends, Ashwagandha preparations, mineral masks, and botanical wraps, along with essential oils like Ylang Ylang. Respa focuses on skill and attitude-based hiring. Therapists undergo structured in-house training covering Ayurveda, therapy techniques, hygiene, and luxury service standards, with continuous skill development programmes.

The Treatment

I am welcomed to the spa with a glass of kokum juice, a traditional summer drink made from the Western Ghats fruit, kokum. Known to hydrate the body, help it cool down and reduce anxiety, this is a great way to start the spa journey.

I flip through the extensive offerings and choose the Shithila (that literally means ‘to relax’). I am told that this massage has a balancing effect on all three doshas or body types, which helps mobilize toxins, promotes youthfulness, and increases energy. The benefit of this massage is that it promotes vitality, improves circulation, and gives a healthy glow to the skin while improving muscle tone.

And when I was informed that this massage is suggested for those who like medium to less pressure that helps in inducing better sleep or mental relaxation, I knew it suited me perfectly.

My therapist, Remi from Mizoram, started the session with a dry massage where she pressed the whole body with firm strokes over the towel. Starting with the leg massage, she used Ojas oil (a blend of aromatherapy oils). The strokes used are circular, which she alternated between using her palms, lower arms, and fingers to apply pressure on the muscles.

The foot massage is great too, as she applied optimum pressure to ensure my tired feet feel completely relaxed. The hand massage was equally good. The back massage is done using both hands in tandem and was very relaxing. The shoulder and neck massage moves to the hands, and once I turn over, the neck and head massage continue. At the end of the session, I have a shower and sip a glass of green tea, reflecting on how a busy day ended on such a relaxing note.
