StyleSpeak brings you the perfect treatment for every under-eye issue

Who doesn’t want beautiful, sparkling eyes? One doesn’t really need an answer to the question!

But the reality is that the skin around the eyes is thinner than any other region of the body making the under-eye region one of the most sensitive parts of the body. The under eye skin lacks collagen and oil glands, making it prone to becoming dry, droopy and show the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The lack of sebaceous (oil) glands leads to wrinkles and the appearance of crow’s-feet around the corners of the eyes.

These factors necessitate special attention and care for the under-eye area and the right care of the under-eyes is essential for a youthful and fresh look.

Common Problems:

  • Dark Circles

The most common under eye problem that we hear about is the visibility of dark circles. Dark circles form under the eyes due to exhaustion, lack of sleep, excessive sun exposure, aging, etc.

Treatments: Chemical Peels that make use of alpha-hydroxy acids help to reduce pigmentation around the eyes. Non-invasive Laser Therapies like pulsed dye are also useful for this purpose.

  • Wrinkles

wrinkles

When the area under the eyes becomes thinner and loses elasticity, wrinkles start to form under the eyes. This is caused as a person ages, resulting in the deterioration of the production of collagen and elastin with time. Repeated facial expressions, genetics and sun exposure are causative factors too.

Treatments: Botox helps to relax muscles and reduces the appearance of wrinkles under the eyes. Fillers help to plump the skin and removes crow’s-feet. Chemical peels and Exfoliation are some more ways to reduce under eye wrinkles as they get rid of the dry skin under the eyes and promote new cell growth. Doing facial exercises is a natural way to treat under eye wrinkles.

  • Puffiness

The under eye region also shows puffiness due to reasons like aging, high-salt diet or lack of sleep. The puffiness makes the under eye area look like swollen bags. This appears when the muscles and tissues around the eyes weaken and the fat around the eyes bulges out.

Treatments: Eyelid Surgery (blepharoplasty) is a procedure that removes excess fat from the under-eye region. Microneedling[5] punctures fine needles into the skin and this helps to rejuvenate the skin under the eyes. Cooling massages using Gua Sha or Ice Roller Globes also help to get rid of under-eye puffiness.

  • Under-eye hollows

Under-eye hollow or sunken eyes occur due to aging, dehydration, sun exposure, sudden weight loss or lack of sleep.

Treatments: Hyaluronic acid filler such as Restylane or Juvederm restore the volume under eyes. These are the most common treatment for under eye hollowness. When Hyaluronic Acid Filler is paired with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), the life of the filler is increased and so the need for periodic maintenance is reduced. Makeup is an instant, non-surgical, temporary way to hide under-eye hollowness as well as dark circles.

  • Visible blood vessels

blood vessels

Extreme dryness, sun exposure, aging, etc lead to visible blood vessels under the eyes. This may seem scary but it is a normal part of aging as with age, the skin under the eyes becomes more clear and colourless. If a person has paler skin, they can have visible blood vessels under the eyes even at a young age.

Treatments: Sclerotherapy reduces the appearance of blood vessels in a few weeks by using injections of sclerosing agents.

“The under-eye area of the face is the most sensitive area. It is where the first signs of aging are seen through the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. This is because we have no oil producing glands there. Hence it is essential to take extra care of that area.”
