Two major events, Vogue World Paris and the Tony Awards 2024 transpired this June. The annual Tony Awards acknowledges achievements and excellence in Broadway. It features a star-studded list of invites. Unconventional beauty and style looks took centre stage at this year’s Tony Awards. Meanwhile, the third edition of Vogue World Paris also transpired. The international fashion and beauty event melds sports and French fashion for a truly out-of-this-world extravaganza.

Here are some of StyleSpeak’s favourite looks.

Billy Porter at Tony Awards 2024

Perhaps one of the most grand, glittery looks from Tony’s red carpet was courtesy of Billy Porter. The key highlight of Billy’s look was his smoky, glittery, eyeshadow. Besides a frosty lip and silver fox-esque beard, his makeup was subtle and understated, complementing his starry Robert Wun suit.

Taraji P. Henson at Tony Awards 2024

Taraji P. Henson’s mermaid-scaled Oscar de la Renta dress was certainly an eye-catcher, but complementing this outfit was her colour-blocked hair and nude makeup. Taraji’s long, asymmetric bob featured caramel brown underlights, a striking but subtle look. Her nearly nude makeup balanced the dress, with peachy eyeshadow and glowy highlighter neatly finishing this well-conceptualized look.

Alyah Scott at Tony Awards 2024

This actress embraced a historical-inspired fashion with her flowy white dress and seamless, minimal makeup. Proving that less is truly more when it comes to makeup, Alyah showed off a tightly contoured face with a soft pink blush and eyeshadow. A combination of subtle highlighter and a light-toned concealer brightened the centre of her face. For a pop of colour, Alyah’s cherry-red lips captured all the attention on the red carpet.

Jordan Roth at Tony Awards 2024

Bringing an unexpected gothic camp on the red carpet was Jordan Roth, whose leaf-imprinted Rodarte dress was perfectly complimented by the similar black nature-themed headpiece. The producer’s dark, smoky eye featured a glowing highlighter in the inner corner. Stark contour, minimal blush, and burgundy lips completed this fantasy-reminiscent look.

Kara Young at Tony Awards 2024

This actress’ silver pixie cut was both unconventional and stunning. Her long-sleeved, olive green Bibhu Mohapatra dress was complemented by the grey tones of her jewellery and makeup, striking against her dark skin. Warm bronzer, brown matte lipstick, and stunning silver eyeshadow created an unforgettable beauty look.

Sabrina Carpenter at Vogue World Paris 2024

Sabrina’s red-and-white Jacquemus vintage swimsuit-inspired ensemble truly brought the 1940s to life. Sabrina’s youthful, coquette-ish hair and makeup has always been iconic, but this look truly surpassed all bounds. Sabrina’s iconic blonde bangs peeked out from under her red-and-white bandanna, and bright pink blush, copious amounts of highlighter, and a bold red lip completed the look. She had us singing, “Please Please Please” show up on more red carpets!

Venus Williams at Vogue World Paris 2024

Tennis extraordinaire Venus Williams took recycled fashion to the next level with a gown fashioned out of recycled tennis bags. Perfectly encapsulating the show’s theme of combining sports and fashion worlds, Venus’ reputation as a famed tennis star melded perfectly with the gorgeous dress. Her hair was sleek and straight down her back, and her makeup consisted of bright highlighter and nude smoky eyes and lips.

Katy Perry at Vogue World Paris 2024

This connoisseur of daring fashion moods is back with a bold outfit. Deemed as a “naked” dress, this outfit consisted of cleverly placed cutouts ending with a floral skirt. Yet, the hair and makeup was the star of this look. Katy’s hair was slicked down to create a straight wet-hair look. For her makeup, she chose purple smokey eyes with dramatic mascara, purple blush from the tops of her cheekbones to her temples, and a peachy pink lip.

Aya Nakamura at Vogue World Paris 2024

Aya Nakamura’s Jean Paul Gaultier gown was reminiscent of Victorian-era corsets, adding a modern twist with the long slit up one leg. The brown number was pure understated glamour, both structured and dynamic. To complement the gown, Aya’s makeup featured a prominent pink blush and a sharp, smokey cat-eye. The purple lipstick was just the right pop of colour to pull the outfit together.

Ciara at Vogue World Paris 2024

Move aside, Marvel! American singer-songwriter Ciara took superhero fashion to the next level with her neon green caped look at Vogue World Paris. Paired with a neon wrap skirt, golden shimmery bodysuit and heels, the look fluttered in the wind, exuding supernatural grace. While most of the artist’s blonde hair was not visible, her makeup was popping with purple eyeshadow, dark blush, and nude lips.
