Vicky en France, a Singapore-based firm, has cracked the code to use eggshell membranes and transform them into collagen products, which is turning out to be a cheaper substitute for many beauty and wellness formulations.
Eggshell membrane collagen is emerging as a multi-functional ingredient in beauty and wellness due to its naturally occurring composition. The membrane lining eggshells contains collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, and glycosaminoglycans—components that play a role in maintaining skin structure and joint function. Studies suggest it may help support skin hydration and elasticity, while more consistent evidence points to benefits in reducing joint discomfort and improving mobility.
Founder of Vicky en France, Vicy Choi adds that so far the company has used 35 kg of French eggshell membrane for this purpose, which essentially means that more than 35,000 eggs and over 2 tons of calcium-infused shell waste has been upcycled from landfills. This waste has been made into a 500mg daily dose in C’est La Berry, showcasing that premium beauty and sustainability can thrive together.
C’est La Berry is in a jelly stick formula and contains collage type I, V, and X and it can also be used as sunscreen and for joint issues. Choi wanted to have a supplement that was both tasty and looked appealing and the jelly stick checks both boxes. When used in the jelly format, the complex blend can be stabilised in a more bioavailable matrix, and chewing starts the pre-gastric absorption through the salivary enzymes and starts breaking down the enzymes as soon as they are chewed.
The company has made an entire product line mixing blueberry extract with apple cider vinegar for antioxidant benefits, biotin and glutathione for brightening the skin and improving hair strength as well as fructooligosaccharides (FOS) prebiotics for gut health. Besides the collagen jelly sticks, people can use the C’est La Chick, a collagen scrub soap, and OROJI Le Masque, for the face, neck, and decollete.
Choi sees great potential of this sustainable collagen supplement in South East Asia and France as the former has been a frontrunner in adopting the concept of inside-out beauty while France is the mecca of luxury skincare and also a major provider of premium raw materials.
