This trend has caught on since 2021 with beauty influencers sharing tips on the benefits of cold treatments along with ingredients like cucumber and aloe vera.

Initially, beauty experts suggested keeping products like masks, creams and other cosmetics in the refrigerator for some time before application to get maximum benefits out of them. However, over time, the trend has been to have ice cubes as a must-have in the skincare regime.

In fact, now there are numerous hashtags suggesting these beauty tips with more than a hundred million views on TikTok. Skin-icing is the most widely used and popular practice on TikTok, with 23 million views. There are many variations to this practice, which includes applying frozen cucumber to the face with 39 million views, frozen lipsticks with 400,000 views, and the frozen beauty blender, which is about applying foundation with 9.7 million views.

One of the latest viral trends is frozen aloe vera with 3.2 million views. It includes making aloe vera ice cubes as it combines the properties of cold with the moisturising properties of aloe vera.

Another popular trend is using ice globes, which started trending in 2022. They are water-filled spheres kept in the refrigerator or freezer before it’s applied to the skin. They help soothe the skin and bring down inflammation and dark circles. This trend has about 60 million views on TikTok. Massage tools like a Gua Sha, a jade roller, quartz roller can also be kept in the refrigerator to get the same results.

Now brands have too embraced this new trend, offering cooling masks, cooling-effect sticks, roll-ons etc. for great results. Charlotte Tilbury’s Cryo Recovery Mask, the Cryo-Freshening stick by Holidermie, the Dr. Jart+ Cryo Rubber mask, the Cryo Anti-Puffiness roll-on from Sothys Paris, and the Akane Skincare Ice Therapy Kit are some of the popular skin-icing products.

Along with the beauty industry, even the travel industry is cashing in on this new trend with wellness getaways focusing on cold therapy in places like Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Iceland. In Finland, ice swimming is a traditional therapy that helps enhance skin health.
