Biggest beauty brands including, Henkel, L’Oréal, LVMH, Natura & Co, and Unilever are asking companies from the cosmetic sector to design a voluntary environmental impact assessment and scoring system for consumers. The goal is to provide consumers a proper, transparent environmental impact guide based on science to help them make sustainable choices.
This new system will fulfil the consumer demand for more transparency about environmental impact of packaging, formula, and usage. Once consumers have this information, they will be able to make more sustainable choices.
A consortium of interested companies will be created for this purpose. They will help in the designing of the system that will basically let consumers compare different cosmetics products in the same category. The main aim is to have an overall score on products and their environmental impact, from production to consumption.
