Observing India is at the prime growth stage in its skincare market, Rami Itani, Director – L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty, L’Oréal India, spoke to The Hindu’s businessline regarding the country’s market opportunities. The interview follows the push of its global brand La Roche-Posay into the country, tapping into its booming dermocosmetic segment. On India’s changing consumer interest to derma-based beauty products, L’Oreal India’s Itani revealed that consumers are increasingly shifting towards products that offer science-led benefits, and prioritizing dermatologist-recommended formulations over conventional skincare.
Assured India is open to advanced dermacosmetic solutions, he praised the success of L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty line since the CeraVe product was launched in India two years ago. Regarding introducing La Roche-Posay to India, he stated it was based on the understanding of Indian consumers’ interest towards more science-focused solutions for common issues as well as the increasingly large consumer market for skincare products. He noted, “Consumers actively seeking science-led solutions for concerns such as hyperpigmentation, acne, sensitivity, and UV-induced skin damage. Building on this momentum, and the growing trust in L’Oréal dermatology-led portfolio, we are now introducing La Roche-Posay to India.”
He also mentioned that India has a limited number of dermatologists relative to its population, adding, “This has created a significant access gap for consumers seeking expert-led skincare solutions.”
Future of Company’s Dermatological Beauty Products
Highlighting that there has been consistent growth in India’s derma-based skincare segment, Mr Itani explained, “Consumers are prioritizing dermatologist-recommended formulations over conventional skincare. This behavior shift stems from improved awareness and rising trust in evidence-backed skincare.”

Stressing that India could be a good option for world-class product production, he said, “As part of our broader Dermatological Beauty portfolio, CeraVe is now being manufactured locally, meeting our global quality benchmarks.” The company is selling its product lines at dermatologist clinics in addition to popular stores like Apollo 24/7, and Nykaa. From two cities, the brand has expanded its dermatological beauty product line to ten cities.
