Opens its first Indian salon in Lower Parel, with another Mumbai location planned in Juhu as it expands its textured-hair offering in India.
For people with curls, waves and coils, finding a salon that understands how different hair textures behave can be a challenge. The Curl Nation, a haircare brand that began in Kuwait, is looking to address that gap with its first Indian salon, which has opened at Lodha Signet in Lower Parel, Mumbai.
The India launch marks the next phase of the brand’s expansion beyond the Gulf. Founded in Kuwait in 2019 by Vijai Vadivu Rangasamy and Bala Subramaniam, The Curl Nation initially began as a social media platform focused on textured hair before growing into a salon and retail business. It now operates concept stores and salons in Kuwait and Bahrain, alongside a business-to-business presence in the Gulf.
In Mumbai, the brand is bringing its approach to haircuts and treatments specifically designed around natural texture. Its menu includes services such as the Ultimate Curl Transformation, Signature Dry Curl Cut, Curl Reset, Curl Detox, Frizz Rescue and precision cuts, along with creative colour and repair treatments. K18-based Bond Repair is also part of the salon’s offering.
The experience begins with a consultation rather than a standard haircut assessment. The team looks at the client’s curl pattern, hair condition, concerns and styling habits before deciding on the appropriate service. The idea is to work with the natural movement and structure of the hair rather than treating curls like straight hair that simply needs to be styled differently.
That approach comes from the brand’s own experience in the Gulf, where its founders built a business around the needs of people with textured hair. Rangasamy, who is the brand’s Founder and CEO, and Subramaniam, its Co-Founder and COO, have also positioned education as an important part of the business, with professional training forming part of its wider offering.
The Mumbai salon is the beginning of a larger India plan. The brand intends to open another location in Juhu and eventually build a wider network of salons, while also expanding its retail, e-commerce and professional education operations in the country.
Actor Ishaan Khatter attended the launch, alongside industry professionals and guests. The Curl Nation’s dedicated product range is also available through the Mumbai salon and its online store, giving customers access to products intended for maintaining and styling textured hair between salon visits.
With its India entry, the brand is betting on a market where conversations around embracing natural texture have grown considerably, while specialised salon services for curls and coils remain a relatively focused category.
