Pedicure Tips for Dry Feet
If your feet are always dry, regular pedicure sessions can help alleviate the problem and give you smooth and silky feet.
Pedicures are a great way to keep your feet clean and soft, and are a ‘must have’ for people with dry feet. Today pedicures are regarded as a basic grooming service which facilitates hygiene, and the treatment can be elevated to a luxurious or therapeutic procedure depending on client need.
The Process
Salons typically start with a foot soak in a spa or warm foot bath. This might include added bath salts, essential oils, or hydrating additives that help to soften the skin and prepare it for exfoliation. Salons use specialised tools and products for exfoliation, such as electric foot files or professional-grade scrubs. These tools are more effective at removing dead skin compared to home methods. “During the pedicure, salons often use rich, hydrating creams or oils. These might include shea butter, cocoa butter, or other high-quality moisturisers. Some salons also offer additional moisturising treatments like paraffin wax dips for deeper hydration.
A foot massage during a pedicure helps increase blood circulation and improves the absorption of moisturisers,” says Namika Kant, Technical Expert, Envi Salons.
Salons use various techniques and creams to ensure your feet get the full benefit of the treatment. Some offer additional treatments like hydrating foot masks or serums for extremely dry feet to be applied after the exfoliation and massage.
The Ingredients
Salons use products with specific ingredients that target dryness. Found in many professional foot creams and treatments, urea helps to break down dead skin and draw moisture into the skin. “Used in serums or creams, hyaluronic acid attracts moisture from the environment and helps to retain it in the skin. A common ingredient in salon products, shea butter is known for its deep moisturising properties and ability to repair the skin barrier. Often used in its pure form or infused in treatments, coconut oil provides intense hydration and helps lock in moisture. Salons might use glycerine-based products to attract and hold moisture in the skin, keeping feet hydrated. Lactic Acid is used in exfoliants and masks to gently exfoliate while also providing hydration,” says Kant.
By prioritizing these aspects, you can enhance your pedicure offering and better manage clients with problems of dry feet.
