Shiseido, Japan’s largest cosmetics company, is all set to launch its makeup brand Nars for the first time in India with the aim to benefit from the booming consumer market in the country. Soon NARS Cosmetics will be available in Indian retail outlets as it inks a deal with Shopper’s Stop Ltd.’s Global SS Beauty Brands. It will launch 14 stores in Mumbai and New Delhi in 2023. The brand will also be promoted through LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE’s Sephora shops.
In the future, Shiseido plans to launch more brands in India as it can foresee an increasing demand from consumers who are more aware of global brands due to the internet and social media. According to Nicole Tan, Head of Asia Pacific at Shiseido, Indian consumers are interested in colour cosmetics such as eyeshadows, blush, and lipstick. Hence, the brand is entering in the country in a segment where consumers embrace individuality.
Shisiedo’s entry into India follows its retreat in 2015, when it shut down its subsidiary.
