The first transgender salon has opened in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi area. Called The TransFormation Salon, this unisex salon is the first of its kind in Mumbai. It aims to create inclusivity and just employment opportunities for all genders. Deutsche Bank and the Rotary Club of Bombay have partnered in this venture and were present at the opening ceremony of the salon that took place on March 25, 2023 .
According to Vineet Bhatnagar, President of Rotary Club of Bombay, the salon will have well trained professionals working at the salon as it is the quality of service that will get them recognition. According to Stylist, Omi who is a lesbian and has 15 years of salon experience, society will take some time to warm up to the idea of such a venture, but people will soon realise that there are skilled people in the transgender community too.
The salon will start with about six to eight employees with an upper deck that will work as a safe space for the people to work.
