Majority of the MSMEs are on sale due to matters of credit, supply chain, shortage of customers, new business launches, and more. These are all economic repercussions of COVID-19. The MSMEs particularly micro and small businesses such as beauty salons, pharmacies, kirana stores, and others have been severely hit.
Post the second lockdown, customer base has reduced majorly, leading to major financial complications. As per statistics from SMERGERS on MSME, out of the 65 lakh businesses listed for sale, 52,000 came on the listing from April 2020, out of which 7,000 are approved listings. Before COVID, the daily business listing averaged at 10 and that doubled before the second wave and at present it is at 25.
