Johnson and Johnson’s baby powder will soon be history as it is going to be discontinued globally in 2023. The brand already stopped its production in the US, the UK and Canada. However, the brand will be reborn as they are planning a transition from baby powder to corn-starch-based powder into the market. This transition is due to the brand having over 38,000 lawsuits that claims that the talc, which has been used for a long time in baby products, is carcinogenic due to contamination with asbestos minerals. The mines that produce the powder can contain asbestos, a mineral that’s utilized in the products such as building insulation and has been linked by the scientists to cancer. Therefore, Johnson and Johnson, as part of a worldwide portfolio assessment, has decided commercially to switch to a baby powder solely based on cornstarch as a part of a global portfolio.
