French fashion designer Pierre Cardin has died at the age of 98. World-renowned for his stylish creations, Pierre Cardin started his career as an apprentice to a tailor in Italy at a young age of 17. In 1945 he got the opportunity to design beautiful sets and costumes of Beauty and the Beast and there was no looking back for him after that! He set up his eponymous fashion label in 1950 and was known all over the world for his bubble dress.
He was the first in the industry to start a large-scale licensing business that distributed its branded products – cigarettes, perfumes, ties, even mineral water. He expanded his business to Asia and China and had about 1,000 franchises and licensees.
