Indore witnessed a star-studded event at the Grand Sheraton Palace on 5th July as the first batch of 63 underprivileged children, along with girls from the deaf community, graduated after completing the IHB certificate level course in beauty therapy and hairdressing.

Organized by Unnati Singh, International Beauty Educator, Director of IHB India Education, and Founder of Mansi Beauty Academy n Salon, the show was a great success. The girls underwent a rigorous training schedule spanning over 20 days, where they were taught the basics of hairdressing, including haircuts and blow drying, hair treatments, basic hair colour, and a range of hairstyles. In the beauty therapy course, they were given training in mini facials (cleanup), manicure, pedicure, waxing, threading, and basic makeup techniques.

“We emphasize salon hygiene and personal grooming during the course. It is of utmost importance to teach beauticians about body odour as they come in close contact with clients. Also, in our training module, we focus on salon cleanliness and ethics along with communication skills, including greeting and treating clients well. They are equally important for any beautician”, says Nayana Karunaratne, Founder and Chairperson at IHB Education and Founder of Salon Nayana in Sri Lanka. Speaking about the course, Unnati Singh added, “The main benefit of this course is that it has 95% practical training, and the basics about the why’s and what’s about each of the beauty services are explained in detail. This helps students get a thorough foundation level practical knowledge, which most academies do not provide.”

The students from the course were given this training free of cost and are assured 100% job opportunities at salons. Unnati added, “After IHB training, employment is guaranteed. In India, at present, there is a requirement for approximately 1.5-2 lakh beauticians per month, and owing to IHB’s relationship with different beauty companies, they have been promised jobs for all the students. Nayana added, “After this course, students can easily get a job worth Rs10-15,000 remuneration, and if they do the diploma course, the salaries are expected to double.” In a kind gesture, the owner of Sheraton Grand Palace announced at the event that they would hire one of the girls from the deaf and dumb community at their hotel salon to encourage and motivate more such girls to become self-reliant.
