In the ever-evolving world of beauty, nails continue to be a powerful tool of creative expression – and if this year’s Nailathon Competition at HBS 2025 was anything to go by, nail artistry in India is having a major moment!
As the industry shifts toward conscious formulas and wearable finishes, nail technicians are finding exciting ways to blend creativity with technical brilliance. Here, StyleSpeak gets in touch with Dr. Kavita Sheth, Founder, Kavi’s Nail Care and Institute of Nail Technology; Meerra Mevawala, Principal and Creative Director of Meerra’s International School of Makeup and More and Dina Umarova, Managing Director, Bluesky India, and Founder, Bluesky Nail Academy, to understand what’s new, what’s next and what’s making a statement – both on-stage and in salons.
Fantasy Gets a Fresh Edge
One of the most creatively charged categories this year at HBS Competition 2025 was the Fantasy En-Vogue Category – and the jury took notice.
“The creativity was just off the charts,” says Dr. Kavita Sheth. “Some of the nails were so elaborate and imaginative, it was actually difficult to judge at first.” For Dr. Sheth, it wasn’t just about the nail art – it was the whole package and Meerra Mevawala agrees. “Every nail artist at HBS 2025 brought their own interpretation to the table. It was exciting to watch them push their creative boundaries to their fullest,” she says.
Bridal in Full Bloom
While the Fantasy En-Vogue Category was all about big ideas and bold execution, the Bridal Chic Category brought its own understated glamour but with a surprising detail this year: 2D flat floral art paired with diamonds.
“It was such a fresh take,” says Meerra. “When it comes to bridal nails, there is always a tendency to go over the top but this year at Nailathon, Bridal Chic felt refined, feminine and still highly impactful.” The designs this year struck a perfect balance between elegance and opulence – something that we are seeing more of across bridal beauty in general.
The Return of Classic Precision
Dr. Kavita was particularly impressed with the deft creative work showcased in the Classic Flat Art Category at HBS 2025. “The entries this year were just clean, precise and beautifully aligned to the theme,” she says. “As for the French Manicure, there was a subtle upgrade in terms of structure and finish this year,” she adds.
What’s Buzzing in the Nail Industry Today
While HBS 2025 gave us a close look at what’s happening on-ground in India, globally, 2025 is seeing a shift toward more conscious, tech-savvy nail choices. According to Dina Umarova, the nail market is leaning into clean beauty more than ever before now. With consumers now asking for non-toxic, vegan and breathable formulas – there is an increasing demand for products that don’t just look good but feel good as well!
When it comes to shades, the industry is now leaning towards sheer nudes, soft pinks and barely-there shades that are polished yet not overpowering.
On the other hand, finishes are getting an upgrade too. As per Dina, while Chrome is still very much in trend, it has now gone softer. Think satin chromes in pastels, cat-eye effects and subtle, reflective accents. When paired with neutral bases, these finishes give the nails a futuristic edge.
Dina also notes a steady rise in sculptural textures. According to her, 3D designs with pearls, beads and embedded accents are showing up on nails everywhere. And for the tech-forward crowd? Smart top coats and mood polishes are picking up heavy steam. These trends are fun, interactive and perfect for clients who want a quick nail art without wanting to spend hours in the chair.
Whether it is 3D fantasy nails or quiet classics that are done right, when it comes to nails, 2025 is all about intent. With nail artistry becoming more expressive, sustainable and refined than ever, it is clear that the industry is headed towards a creative purpose behind every design.
