Hyderabad became the first Indian city to introduce a dedicated spa exclusively for babies, aiming to address concerns around infant stress and support overall development. Launched in 2018, this unique facility offers a variety of services tailored to promote both cognitive and physical well-being in babies aged from newborn to nine months.
The concept of The Baby Spa was originally developed in South Africa by Lara Sevenus in 2005. Her approach combined nurturing therapies, such as baby massages and hydrotherapy, with expert-led care. Bringing this model to India, the Hyderabad centre marks the country’s debut into this emerging wellness space for infants.
One of the standout features of the spa is its use of a specially designed floatation device that allows infants to move freely and safely in water. This innovation not only encourages independent movement but also enhances sensory and motor skills. The facility also includes swim nappies and protective swimsuits to prevent accidents during sessions.
Water quality and hygiene are top priorities at the spa. Babies under eight weeks are placed in individual pods filled with purified water, while older infants benefit from UV-sterilised water. Each hydrotherapy session lasts around 20 minutes and is priced at approximately ₹2,550.
Staffed by trained neonatal nurses and physiotherapists, the spa ensures that infants receive safe and supervised care. The centre also emphasises the importance of early stimulation and relaxation for long-term health benefits.
CEO of the Hyderabad centre, Swathi Kolla, noted the positive response from parents and expressed plans to expand the concept across the country. She said that the aim is to make this kind of holistic care more accessible to families across India.
With its blend of modern science, wellness, and early development, India’s first baby spa is redefining infant care.
