Of all the hair trends that dominated the beauty scene in 2026, the fringe trend has made a significant comeback. Quick to embrace trends, celebrities have taken to flaunting this timeless style at major fashion and movie events. From Nicole Kidman and Simone Ashley slaying the fringe  it with curtain bangs at the 2026 Met Gala 2026, Kris Jenner kepingt it sharp with a glossy fringe. Meanwhile,Kristen Stewart too slayed the fringe to dominate the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. 

Elton Steve Vessoaker, Founder, House of ELTON reveals the top 5 fringe trends and explains, “Fringes are having a major moment because they can completely change the personality of a haircut without necessarily sacrificing length. Right now, curtain fringes, bottleneck bangs, wispy fringes, Birkin-inspired bangs and shorter micro fringes are all relevant.”

Top 5 fringe trends

The curtain fringe: Remains one of the most wearable options. It opens around the face and blends into layers, making it particularly flattering on longer and rounder face shapes. 

A bottleneck fringe: Is slightly shorter through the centre and gradually gets longer towards the cheekbones, giving beautiful face-framing movement.

Wispy fringes: Are almost see through. There’s no solid line. It’s very soft and like a veil.

Birkin-style fringes: For clients wanting something softer, wispy or Birkin-style fringes give an effortless, slightly undone finish and work especially well when you don’t want a heavy, solid fringe.

Micro fringes: At the other end of the spectrum, micro fringes are much stronger and more fashion-forward, making them ideal for someone who wants their haircut to make a statement.

The current trend is less about one prescribed fringe and more about customisation, says Elton. It’s about what works best for the face shape and personality he’s working with. 

 “For styling, I prefer blow-drying the fringe immediately after washing, directing the roots into position first. A round brush can create movement, but the finish should remain soft and natural rather than overly “set.” Elton Steve Vessoakar

Products for managing bangs

One of the biggest mistakes with fringes is using too much product. Because the hair sits directly against the forehead, heavy products can quickly make a fringe look oily or separated.

  • For curtain and bottleneck fringes: A lightweight volumising mousse or root-lift spray before blow-drying is preferred to create movement without stiffness. 
  • Wispy and Birkin fringes: A light texturising spray works beautifully on wispy and Birkin fringes, particularly when you want an effortless, piece-y finish.
  • For micro or more structured fringes: A very small amount of lightweight styling cream or flexible-hold spray helps maintain the shape while still allowing movement.
  • Dry shampoo: Is also one of the best fringe products — it absorbs excess oil at the roots and refreshes the fringe between washes. 

Whatever the style, products that provide control while keeping the hair touchable and natural are preferred.

A fringe is not a one-size-fits-all haircut. The key considerations when choosing a fringe are the client’s face shape, bone structure, hair texture, density and natural movement.

Priscila Corner, Creative Director June Tomkyns Salons and Academy Pvt Ltd. India reveals the factors to keep in mind while styling a fringe:

  • Examine the hairline carefully for cowlicks, as these can cause the hair to split or move in an unintended direction, making it difficult to achieve the desired result.
  • Lifestyle is another important factor. Someone comfortable with daily styling can carry a more structured fringe, while a low-maintenance client may be better suited to a softer, longer fringe.
  • Most importantly, the fringe should complement the individual, their personal style and their haircut rather than simply follow a trend. A well-cut fringe should look effortless, even as it grows out.

The fringe is one of the easiest ways to transform a look without changing the entire haircut. It can frame the face, highlight the eyes and create an immediate impact. From soft curtain fringes to bold, graphic cuts, there is a version for almost every face shape, age and personal style” feels Priscilla. 

“It can also be corrective. Longer faces can benefit from fringes that create the illusion of a shorter face, while narrower foreheads can be balanced with a fringe that gives the appearance of greater width.” Priscila Corner

In 2026, fringe styling is becoming more personalised and less rigid, moving away from perfectly uniform, heavily styled fringes towards softer, textured and adaptable shapes. The emphasis is on movement and individuality—creating a fringe that works with the client’s natural texture rather than against it. The modern fringe is designed to feel lived-in, wearable and individual rather than overly constructed.
