The US Food and Drug Administration has proposed new rules regarding products that have talc ensuring they do not have asbestos. These guidelines are under a proposed federal law. Even after these lawsuits research shows that there is a link between cancer and talc due to the way it is mined. Talc, a mineral mined from underground deposits is quite often found near asbestos, a toxic mineral and could lead to cross-contamination. Though laboratory testing of over 150 cosmetics since 2021 has come negative for asbestos, there are still some concerns and hence, Congress passed a law in 2023 ensuring that the FDA proposed new industry standards for testing asbestos in products containing talc.
