Chinese retailers have been asked to remove any cannabis-based cosmetic products as the China’s drug regulator, The National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) bans CBD use in cosmetics. In the finalised list there are 24 new ingredients that are prohibited including, cannabidiol (CBD), cannabis sativa fruit, cannabis sativa seed oil, and cannabis sativa leaf extract. As per NMPA, cosmetic brands cannot produce or import any products with these prohibited ingredients from May 28, 2021. However, any cosmetics produced or imported before this date can be sold for now. Retailers are still being encouraged to pull down these products.
