- Hygienic Research Institute has unveiled a refreshed corporate identity and logo marking its evolution from a heritage-led Indian enterprise into a modern, innovation-driven beauty and personal care organisation serving consumers across India and international markets.
- The rebrand, developed in partnership with brand consultancy chlorophyll, reflects HRI’s growth from a single-brand, single-category business into a multi-brand, multi-category company spanning hair colour, haircare, skincare, and professional salon solutions.
Hygienic Research Institute, one of India’s longest-standing beauty and personal care companies, has unveiled a new corporate identity and logo, marking the most comprehensive brand refresh in its 70-year history. The transformation signals HRI’s intent to build on the legacy of its heritage brands while repositioning itself as a modern, innovation-driven organisation equipped for the next phase of India’s beauty market evolution.
Founded in 1957, HRI has built generational consumer trust through iconic brands including Vasmol and Florozone, while developing contemporary beauty labels including Streax and Streax Professional. Today the company operates across a diverse portfolio spanning hair colour, haircare, skincare, and professional salon solutions, supported by six manufacturing facilities and a workforce of over 1,000 employees, with presence across India and international markets.
The corporate repositioning was developed in partnership with chlorophyll, one of India’s leading brand consultancies. The process involved deep research and brand immersion alongside an outside-in perspective to identify a distinctive brand territory capable of carrying HRI’s heritage equity forward into a more competitive and fast-evolving beauty landscape. The result is an identity system that acknowledges seven decades of consumer trust while giving the company a contemporary visual and strategic expression aligned with its long-term vision.
Dheeraj Arora, Managing Director and CEO of HRI, described the refresh as a celebration of legacy combined with a clear statement of future ambition. From a single-brand, single-category business, HRI has evolved into a multi-brand, multi-category organisation, and the new identity reflects that transformation. He emphasised the company’s commitment to continuous innovation, anticipating evolving consumer needs, and creating solutions that empower individual expression, while strengthening market position and deepening connections with consumers and partners.
Kiran Khalap, Co-founder and Managing Director of chlorophyll, noted that the identity was built on understanding HRI’s heritage, consumers, capabilities, and future ambition simultaneously, resulting in an expression that honours decades of brand equity while positioning the company for what comes next in beauty.
For the professional beauty industry, HRI’s rebrand carries significance. Streax Professional has been a consistent presence in Indian salons for years, and the broader repositioning of the parent company into a more contemporary, innovation-oriented organisation reinforces the professional range’s credentials as part of a forward-looking beauty enterprise. As competition in India’s professional haircare segment intensifies, particularly from international brands deepening their India presence, the clarity and ambition of HRI’s corporate positioning becomes an increasingly relevant factor for salon professionals evaluating their brand partnerships.
HRI’s evolution from a heritage household name into a multi-category beauty company with modern brand infrastructure is a story that reflects India’s broader beauty industry journey over the past seven decades. The new identity is both a marker of how far the company has come and a signal of where it intends to go.
