The collaboration enables students with AI, engineering and research opportunities while supporting talent development for L’Oréal’s Hyderabad Beauty Tech Hub.
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the global beauty industry, companies are increasingly looking beyond traditional recruitment to build future-ready talent pipelines. Reflecting this shift, L’Oréal has entered into a strategic partnership with BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus, strengthening collaboration between industry and academia in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science and engineering innovation.
The agreement is closely aligned with L’Oréal’s long-term technology ambitions in India, particularly following the announcement of its Global Tech Hub in Hyderabad earlier this year. Unveiled at the World Economic Forum 2026, the facility represents an investment of more than ₹3,500 crore (€350 million) through 2030 and is expected to play a central role in developing AI-powered solutions, advanced analytics and next-generation Beauty Tech capabilities for the company’s global operations.
Against this backdrop, the newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BITS Pilani Hyderabad is expected to create a stronger talent pipeline while encouraging collaborative research and innovation. The partnership was formalised at the institute in the presence of senior representatives from both organisations, including Mario Guasco, HR Director for Beauty Tech at L’Oréal; Prashant Vijay, Head of Global Tech Hub in India; Prof. D. Sriram, Director In-Charge of BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus; Prof. M. Krishnamoorthy, Director of Industry Research & Interactive Learning Solutions (IRIS); and Prof. Vamsi Krishna Venuganti, Dean of AGSRD.
Rather than limiting the collaboration to campus hiring, both organisations intend to work together across several academic and industry-focused initiatives. These include hackathons, innovation challenges, guest lectures, technical seminars and curriculum development, giving students opportunities to engage with emerging technologies while allowing industry professionals to contribute practical insights to academic programmes.
As part of the campus engagement, L’Oréal’s leadership team introduced students to the technologies driving the company’s Beauty Tech strategy. Presentations highlighted the growing role of Generative AI, Agentic AI and large-scale data engineering in product development, consumer experiences and research, alongside demonstrations illustrating how science and technology are increasingly influencing innovation across the beauty sector.
Commenting on the collaboration, Prashant Vijay said that partnerships with leading engineering institutions would play an important role in strengthening L’Oréal’s technology ecosystem in India. He feels that access to skilled engineering graduates will support the company’s AI and data ambitions while giving students valuable exposure to how emerging technologies are transforming the beauty industry.
Echoing this sentiment, Prof. Mohan Krishnamurthy said the collaboration creates opportunities to combine academic expertise with industry-led innovation across fields such as life sciences, artificial intelligence, sustainability and advanced product development. He added that such partnerships help prepare students for evolving technology careers while encouraging research that addresses real-world challenges.
