The Hair and Beauty Federation of India (HBF) has appealed to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to ensure that only 5% GST is levied on salon and beauty parlour services under the upcoming GST 2.0 framework announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, PM Modi declared that the government is preparing to introduce “GST 2.0,” a revised tax system aimed at providing relief to the common people. This announcement has raised hopes across various sectors, including the hair, beauty, wellness, and cosmetic industry.
In a formal letter addressed to Sitharaman, HBF highlighted that for the past six years, the industry has been seeking tax relief to cope with economic challenges. The federation emphasized that a lower GST rate of 5% would make services more affordable, benefiting both professionals and customers, while supporting the growth of an industry that employs lakhs of workers across India.

“The industry is committed to the economic development of India, but we seek fair relief to ensure accessibility of services to every citizen,” the letter stated. It further underlined that keeping GST at a minimal rate would allow citizens to maintain beauty, hygiene, and wellness standards.
HBF expressed confidence that the government would consider the sector’s concerns while finalizing GST 2.0, ensuring both economic resilience and industry sustainability.
