Make your bride’s mane the talking point on her D-Day

Words: Bindu Gopal Rao

When brides-to-be plan for the big day, months are often spent on choosing the perfect outfit, flawless makeup, and accessories. Yet, healthy, glossy hair – the crown that frames every bridal look – is often left to last-minute fixes. Experts weigh in on how to do it right.

The Specifics

True care for hair begins from within, through proper nutrition and continues with how one treats it externally. It’s important to let go of myths like excessive oiling to nourish the hair. It too needs consistent nourishment internally as well as externally to be in its best condition for the D-Day.

A balanced diet and a regular haircare routine helps restore hair vitality. “Most importantly, avoid shortcuts or quick fixes. Healthy, beautiful hair is built through consistency in care and good nutrition,” says Snigdha Suman, GM, Marketing & Business Development, AVON India.

Dr Janaki K Yalamanchili, consultant dermatologist & cosmetic physician at Zennara Clinics Hyderabad, advises, “Leading up to the big day, you can start off with multivitamins to support healthy hair. For active hair fall or conditions like dandruff or sensitive scalp, it is better to get it analysed and sorted in advance.”

Treat Right

Ideally, a bride should start her hair and scalp care 8-10 weeks before the wedding. “If the hair isn’t too damaged, we often pair Reborn Therapy with 3tenX Spa Treatments for a boost of nourishment and shine. The brides can go for two Reborn – one 3tenX treatment or vice versa. The 3tenX Caviar Treatment is also an excellent treatment” says Swati Gupta, Director and Head of Creative Development, Bodycraft Salon.

Curly-haired brides usually enjoy Moxie Treatments, which help define curls while keeping them soft and frizz-free.   A total of 5-6 sittings can be done every alternate week.  Olaplex express treatment too, can be included.

Pooja Kandhare, Creative Stylist, Looks Salon, says, “Don’t experiment with drastic changes close to the wedding. Stick to your regular hair care routine and avoid trying new products or styles right before the big day. Importantly, take a hair trial before the wedding.”

Colour-Coded

A wedding is the perfect occasion to elevate your look with a fresh colour transformation. Trending lived-in shades can be an ideal match for brides, enhancing hair with natural dimension and luminous shine while complementing Indian skin tones beautifully.

“Pairing this with a nourishing, bond-strengthening treatment ensures a healthy, glossy finish that looks radiant. Colour works best when scheduled about 15 days before the wedding, giving it time to settle naturally into the hair. Treatments should be done 1–2 days before the big day to leave hair silky, manageable, and wedding-ready” says Melissa Hughe, Head of Education – Henkel Consumer Brands (Schwarzkopf Professional).

Professional Cues

Regular scalp massages can improve circulation and follicle strength, but thinning hair needs professional help. “Hair health doesn’t transform overnight,” says Dr Prashant Agrawal, founder, SkinInspired. “If your client is struggling with thinning or patchiness, consult a dermatologist for advanced treatments like PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) & GFC to improve volume,” he explains. One to two months before the wedding, consider Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), a non-invasive treatment that stimulates follicles and improves thickness.

Shahnaz Husain, CMD of the Shahnaz Husain Group, adds, “Ayurveda-based hair treatments, hair treatments with botanical extracts  and hot oil treatments are the best, as opposed to any chemical-based hair treatment or hair spa.”

Final Word

Hair is all about the individual style and self-expression for the bride. Professional advice and treatments ensure  a bride’s tresses are in safe hands for the best day of their life.

Tips by Saumya Yadav, Co-founder of &Done Hair

  • Use silk or satin pillowcases to prevent breakage and reduce frizz when resting.
  • Prepare a wedding-day emergency kit with mini hairspray, bobby pins, shine serum, and a wide-tooth comb.
  • Avoid stress and over-washing, as stress can trigger hair fall, while over-washing strips away natural oils.
