From hairdressing to being an International Educational Manager, all of it has been an outcome of Paul Eamonn’s immense talent and profound interest in the field of hairdressing. He directs shows and seminars for companies like L’Oreal, Wella, Schwarzkopf to name a few. Eamonn has inspired some of the industry’s top names, and continues to do so for the TONI&GUY and label.m brands globally.

How and when did your association with label.m happen?

My association with label.m began in 2005. I got involved with the launch of label.m products; we as hairdressers had to apply our extensive technical knowledge in fundamental stages of product development, which continues even today. By 2011, I became the Education Manager for label.m.

 

What is your job as the International Educational Manager of label.m?

Education is the most important part of our business. We at label.m created the ‘ambassador education program’ 6 years ago and my job is to train and educate these hairdressers, educators and the ambassadors across the globe about label.m the brand.

 

How important do you think education is in this field?

Education is incredibly important in this profession. It is fundamental: a stylist needs to be inspired, be progressive, learn new skills everyday. Education is an ongoing process. Knowledge is power; knowledge come from education.

 

What is the most challenging aspect of your job – as a hairstylist and as a educator?

As a hairstylist and educator the most challenging part of the job is time!! There is so much to do and so many people to see and communicate with and such few hours in a week.

 

What part of your job do you enjoy the most as an educator?

The best part of being an educator is making a difference, when you are able to share something with someone that will make a positive difference to them and their lives/career.

 

What inspires you to remain in this profession?

Hairdressing is amazing! After a haircut when a client smiles and says, “hey I love it, it is brilliant!” – this is better than any money in the world! In addition, when I train the educators and they are happy and remember what they have been taught, that is inspiring!

 

How different is the Indian salon industry as compared to those across the globe?

In some ways completely different and in others, it’s just the same. At the end of the day, clients come to us as hairdressers no matter which country with the same thing – a problem and what they are looking for is an expert to solve it.

 

What is your opinion on the Indian hairstylist and Indian beauty market?

There is a lot of education and ideas that need to be shared with the hairstylists. Once the foundation is build one can be creative. As far as the Indian beauty market is concerned – people here are not as experimental with hair trends yet! Women here continue to flaunt long hair with flashes of colours popping here and there. The men have started to be more and more aware of their overall looks and there is a boom in men’s grooming products.

 

What hair trends do you predict for 2018–2019 in India and globally as well?

Hair trends are so diverse. Hair is a very individual concept. It is not fashion but an accessory to fashion. It is an accessory you wear everyday. You can style your hair and make sure each style complements your face and your personality.

But, in case of general global hair trend, long hair cropped short was the trend last year and still continues to be so.

 

Where does India stand in terms of global hair trends & the hair market?

Global hair trends are here! There is a market for products from overseas. People may not be open to experimenting with shape but they are open to experimenting with texture and a lot of colours.
